The right internet speed depends on how many people and devices are connected and what you use your internet for.
For everyday activities like browsing, streaming, video calls, gaming, and working from home, consider how much is happening online at the same time. A household with several people streaming, gaming, working and using smart devices simultaneously may benefit from a faster plan than a household with only a few connected devices.
Because Ozark Fiber provides symmetrical fiber internet, you get fast upload and download speeds which is helpful for video calls, uploading files, gaming, security cameras, and other connected devices.
Not sure which speed is right for you? Give us a call at 866-696-9275. Our team can walk you through how you use your internet and help you choose a plan that fits your household.
Getting Installed
Preparing for your installation and what to expect.
Once Ozark Fiber service is confirmed as available at your address, our team will work with you to schedule an installation appointment.
Appointment availability can vary, so if you need service by a particular date, we recommend contacting us as early as possible. If you’re moving and transferring existing Ozark Fiber service to a new address, we recommend contacting us at least two weeks before your move to help ensure an installation appointment is available when you need it.
Someone 18 years or older must be present for the entire installation appointment.
When your Ozark Fiber technician arrives, they’ll review the installation with you and determine the best way to bring fiber service into your home. Before beginning the work, your technician will discuss where your equipment will be placed and answer any questions you may have.
During a typical installation, your technician will:
- Determine the best route for bringing fiber into your home.
- Run the necessary fiber and complete the connection inside your home.
- Install and connect the equipment needed for your Ozark Fiber service.
- Set up your router and Wi-Fi connection
- Test your connection to make sure your service is working properly.
- Review your equipment and basic Wi-Fi information with you before leaving.
Every home and property is different, so the exact installation process may vary depending on your property and existing connections.
A typical Ozark Fiber installation can take up to two hours to complete. Installation times can vary depending on the home, property, and work required to complete the connection.
We recommend allowing plenty of time for your appointment in case the technician encounters unexpected issues or additional work is needed. Someone 18 years or older must remain at the home for the entire installation appointment.
A little preparation before your appointment can help your installation go smoothly.
Before your technician arrives:
- Make sure someone over 18 years of age or older can remain at the home for the entire appointment.
- Make sure the technician can access the areas inside and outside your home where installation work may be needed.
- Clear the area around where your internet equipment may be installed so the technician has room to work.
- Unlock gates or make arrangements for access to any locked areas of your property.
- Secure pets so your technician can safely work inside and outside your home.
- Think about where you use Wi-Fi most often. Your technician can help determine the best location for our router to provide good enough coverage throughout your home.
Your technician will review the installation with you before beginning the work and answer any questions you may have.
Your ONT (Optical Network Terminal) is the equipment that connects your home to Ozark Fiber’s fiber-optic network.
During your installation, your technician will determine an appropriate location for the ONT based on your home, the fiber route, and the installation requirements. They’ll discuss equipment placement with you before beginning the installation.
Because every home and property is different, the exact location of your ONT may vary.
As part of your installation, your Ozark Fiber technician will set up your router and Wi-Fi connection and make sure your service is working properly before leaving.
Your technician will also review basic Wi-Fi information with you and can help determine a good location for your router based on your home and where you use Wi-Fi most often.
Because router placement can affect Wi-Fi coverage and performance, we recommend discussing any areas of your home where a strong Wi-Fi connections is especially important with your technician during the installation.

Using Your Internet
Getting the most out of your service.
Ozark Fiber offers a variety of internet speed plans designed to support different households and internet needs.
The right speed for you depends on factors such as the number of people and devices using your connection and how you use the internet. Streaming, gaming, working from home, video calls, security cameras, and multiple devices being used at the same time can all influence how much speed you may need.
Visit our Residential Solutions page to view our current speed plans, or contact our team at 866-696-9275 if you’d like help choosing the right plan for your home.
Ozark Fiber provides symmetrical internet speeds, which means your upload and download speeds are the same.
Download speed affects how quickly you can stream, browse, and receive information, while upload speed affects how quickly you can send information during video calls, uploading photos and files, using cloud services, or accessing security cameras.
With symmetrical fiber internet, you get fast performance in both directions, helping everything you do online run smoothly.
Your internet connection may be fast, but where and how you use Wi-Fi can affect the performance you experience throughout your home.
For the best Wi-Fi experience:
- Place your router in a central, open location whenever possible.
- Avoid placing it inside cabinets, behind large furniture, or near objects that may interfere with the signal.
- Remember that walls, floors, distance, and other electronics can affect Wi-Fi performance.
- Keep your router and connected devices up to date.
- For devices that need the most consistent connection, such as gaming consoles or desktop computers, consider using a wired Ethernet connection when possible.
If you’re experiencing ongoing Wi-Fi issues, call us at 866-696-9275 and our team can help troubleshoot your connection.
An Ethernet connection uses a cable to connect a device directly to your router instead of using Wi-Fi.
Because it provides a direct connection, Ethernet can offer more consistent performance and lower latency than Wi-Fi. It can be a great option for desktop computers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, or other devices where a stable connection is especially important.
Wi-Fi is convenient for everyday use and mobile devices, but when you want the most consistent connection possible, wired Ethernet is often the best choice.
Already have networking or Wi-Fi equipment that you would like to continue using? Some existing equipment may or may not be compatible with Ozark Fiber service, depending on the device and your home network setup.
Customer-owned routers, mesh Wi-Fi systems, and other networking equipment can vary in their capabilities and configuration requirements. Using older equipment may also limit the speeds or performance you experience, even when your internet connection is capable of more.
Before connecting your existing equipment, contact us at 866-696-9275. Our team can help determine whether your equipment can be used with your Ozark Fiber service and what setup may be required.
Today’s homes often have many devices connected to the internet at the same time, from phones, tablets, and computers to TVs, gaming systems, security cameras, and smart home devices.
You Ozark Fiber connection is designed to support multiple connected devices, but the number of devices and what they’re doing at the same time can affect how much bandwidth your household needs. Streaming, gaming, video calls, and large downloads typically use more bandwidth than activities like browsing the web or checking email.
If you’re unsure whether your current speed plan is right for your household, call us at 866-696-9275and our team can help you choose a plan that fits the way you use the internet.
Fiber internet is a great choice for gaming, providing the fast speeds, low latency, and reliable connection that online gaming depends on.
For the best gaming experience, consider connecting your console or computer directly to your router with and Ethernet cable when possible. A wired connection can provide more consistent performance and lower latency than Wi-Fi.
Keep in mind that gaming performance can also be affected by factors outside your internet connection, including gaming server, your device and your home network.
Fiber internet provides the speed and bandwidth needed for smooth streaming on TVs, phones, tablets, and other connected devices.
Streaming quality can be affected by factors such as your Wi-Fi connection, the number of devices being used at the same time, and the streaming service itself. For the best experience, make sure your device has a strong Wi-Fi signal or consider using an Ethernet connection for compatible devices.
With the right speed plan and a strong connection, you can enjoy your favorite movies, shows and live content without your internet getting in the way.
Smart TVs connect to the internet to access streaming services, apps, software updates, and other online features.
For the best experience, make sure your TV has a strong Wi-Fi signal. If your TV is located far from your router or you experience buffering or connection issues, a wired Ethernet connection may provide more consistent performance when your TV supports it.
Keep in mind that the TV itself, its apps, and individual streaming services can also affect performance and picture quality.
Internet-connected security cameras rely on your connection to send video, provide live views, store footage in the cloud, and deliver alerts to your devices.
Because cameras frequently upload data, a strong upload connection is especially important. Ozark Fiber’s symmetrical speeds provide equally fast upload and download speeds, making fiber a great fit for homes with security cameras and other connected devices.
Camera performance can also depend on your Wi-Fi signal, camera placement, equipment, and the camera service itself.
From smart thermostats and doorbells to speakers, appliances, lighting and more, many devices throughout your home may rely on Wi-Fi to stay connected.
Most individual smart home devices don’t require a large amount of bandwidth, but a growing number of connected devices can place additional demands on your home network. A strong Wi-Fi signal and properly placed router can help keep devices connected and responsive throughout your home.
Ozark Fiber’s fiber connection provides the speed and capacity to support today’s connected homes and the devices you may add in the future.
Ozark Fiber residential internet plans include unlimited data, so you can stream, game, work, browse, and connect your devices without worrying about a monthly data allowance.
Whether your household uses a little data or a lot, you won’t have to keep track of your usage or worry about overage charges for using too much data.
Data usage is the amount of information your devices send and receive while connected to the internet. Activities like streaming, gaming, video calls, downloading files, using security cameras, and browsing the web all use data.
Some online activities use more data than others, but with Ozark Fiber’s unlimited data, residential customers don’t need to monitor their usage to avoid data caps or overage charges.
Use your connection when and how you need it without worrying about how much data your household has used.
Working from home often means relying on your internet for video calls, cloud applications, file sharing, email, and other online tools throughout the day.
Ozark Fiber’s symmetrical speeds provide equally fast upload and download speeds, which can be especially helpful for video conferencing, uploading large files, and collaborating online.
For important meetings or other activities where a consistent connection matters, work near a strong Wi-Fi signal or consider using a wired Ethernet connection when possible.
Learn About Fiber
Internet explained easily.
Fiber internet is a type of broadband connection that uses fiber-optic cables to transmit data using light. This allows information to travel quickly and efficiently, providing fast speeds, low latency and a reliable connection.
Unlike cable or DSL, which use copper-based wiring for at least part of the connection, fiber is designed to handle large amounts of data and growing internet demands.
Ozark Fiber provides Fiber-to-the=Home (FTTH) service, meaning fiber runs all the way to your home rather than stopping somewhere along the network.
Fiber-to-the-Home, or FTTH, means the fiber-optic connection runs all the way to your home rather than switching to another type of cable for the final portion of the connection.
With Ozark Fiber, you receive a 100% fiber connection directly to your home, allowing you to take full advantage of fiber’s fast speeds, low latency, symmetrical upload and download speeds, and reliable performance.
Simply put: the fiber comes all the way to you.
Fiber internet sends information through thin strands of glass or plastic using pulses of light. Those light signals can carry large amounts of data quickly over long distances.
With Ozark Fiber’s Fiber-to-the-Home network, fiber runs directly to your home, where on ONT (Optical Network Terminal) converts the fiber signal into a connection your home network and devices can use.
The result is a fast, reliable connection with low latency and symmetrical upload and download speeds.
Fiber and cable internet use different technologies to deliver your connection. Fiber uses light transmitted through fiber-optic lines, while cable internet uses coaxial cables to carry data using electrical signals.
Fiber can provide symmetrical upload and download speeds, low latency, and plenty of bandwidth for multiple devices and demanding online activities. Cable connections commonly offer fast download speeds, but upload speeds are typically slower, and performance can be affected by network demand.
With Ozark Fiber’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, fiber runs directly to your home for a 100% fiber connection.
Fiber and DSL use very different technologies to deliver internet service. Fiber uses light transmitted through fiber-optic lines, while DSL delivers internet over traditional copper telephone lines.
DSL speeds can vary based on factors such as the quality of the telephone likes and distance from the provider’s equipment. Fiber is capable of providing much faster speeds, greater bandwidth, lower latency, and symmetrical upload and download speeds.
With Ozark Fiber’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, fiber runs directly to your home, providing a connection designed to handle today’s connected households and growing internet needs.
Fiber and satellite internet connect you in very different ways. Fiber sends data through fiber-optic lines directly to your home, while satellite internet sends data between your property and satellites in orbit.
Satellite can provide an important internet option in rural or remote locations where wired service is not yet available. However, the distance those signals must travel can result in higher latency, which may be noticeable during activities like gaming and video calls.
Where available, fiber provides low latency, high bandwidth, symmetrical upload and download speeds, and a direct wired connection to your home.
An ONT, or Optical Network Terminal, is the device that connects your home to Ozark Fiber’s fiber-optic network.
The ONT receives the light signals traveling through the fiber line and converts them into a connection that your router and devices can use to access the internet.
You can think of the ONT as the connection point between Ozark Fiber’s fiber network and your home network.
Wi-Fi is the wireless technology that allows devices like phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, and other connected devices to access your internet without being connected by a cable.
Your router takes your Ozark Fiber internet connection and creates a wireless network within your home that your devices can connect to.
Wi-Fi performance can be affected by factors such as distance from your router, walls and other obstacles, interference, and the capabilities of your devices. This is why the speed you experience over Wi-Fi may sometimes differ from the speed delivered to your home.
A router is the device that creates and manages your home network, allowing your phones, computers, smart TVs, gaming systems, and other devices to connect to the internet.
Your router receives the internet connection from your ONT and distributes it to your devices through Wi-Fi or wired ethernet connections.
Where your router is located can affect Wi-Fi performance, so placing it in a central open area can help provide better coverage throughout your home.
Mesh Wi-Fi uses multiple Wi-Fi devices placed throughout your home to work together as one wireless network, helping provide better coverage in areas that may be difficult for a single router to reach.
Mesh Wi-Fi can be especially helpful in larger homes, multi-story homes, or homes with Wi-Fi dead spots caused by distance, walls or other obstacles.
Instead of connection to separate networks as you move around your home, compatible mesh systems are designed to keep your devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network while providing coverage across a larger area.
Bandwidth is the amount of data your internet connection can handle at one time. Think of it like the number of lanes on a highway, the more capacity you have, the more internet activity can happen at the same time without creating congestion.
Households with multiple people streaming, gaming, video calling, working from home, or using connected devices at the same time may benefit from more bandwidth.
Simply put, more bandwidth gives your household more room to do more online at once.
Latency is the amount of time it takes for data to travel from your device to its destination and back. It is typically measured in milliseconds (ms).
Lower latency means your connection responds more quickly, which is especially important for activities that happen in real time, such as online gaming, video calls, and voice calls.
Fiber internet is known for its low latency, helping provide a fast and responsive online experience.
Ping is a way to measure how quickly your internet connection can send data to another location and receive a response. It is measured in milliseconds (ms).
A lower ping generally means a more responsive connection, which can be especially important for real-time activities like online gaming and video calls.
While latency refers to the delay in a connection, ping in one common way that delay is measured.
- Mbps vs Gbps
Mbps and Gbps are measurements used to describe internet speed.
- Mbps stands for megabits per second.
- Gbps stands for gigabits per second.
- 1 Gbps equals 1,000 Mbps.
For example, a 500 Mbps connection provides half the speed capacity of a 1 Gbps (1 Gig) connection.
The higher the number, the more data your connection can transfer each second, providing greater capacity for multiple devices, streaming, gaming, video calls, downloads, and other online activities happening at the same time.
Download speed measures how quickly data travels from the internet to your device. Activities like streaming movies, browsing websites, downloading files, and viewing content primarily rely on download speed.
Upload speed measures how quickly data travels from your device to the internet. Video calls, uploading photos and files, cloud backups, security cameras, and sharing content rely on upload speed.
Ozark Fiber provides symmetrical speeds, meaning your upload and download speeds are the same, giving you fast performance in both directions.
Many internet connections provide fast download speeds but significantly slower upload speeds. Symmetrical speeds give you the same speed in both directions, so sending information can be just as fast as receiving it.
Fast upload speeds are especially helpful for video calls, working from home, cloud backups, uploading large files, security cameras, gaming and sharing photos or videos.
With Ozark Fiber’s symmetrical internet, your connection is designed to keep up with everything your household does online, not just downloading and streaming.
